SSD Hosting: Why do you need it?

Proper SSD hosting is a necessary foundation for a fast website. As well as speed benefits, SSD hosting is much more reliable than web hosting powered by old-school moving part drives. Read on to find out more about what SSD hosting is and why it has such great advantages for website owners!

What is SSD hosting?

SSD hosting is a type of web hosting that uses solid-state drives instead of traditional hard disk drives. Solid State Drives, or SSDs, have no mechanical parts and use interconnected flash memory chips to store data, as opposed to the spinning disks used by hard disk drives. This makes SSDs faster and more reliable than HDDs, making them an excellent choice for web hosting.

The memory mechanism in a Solid State Drive is much like RAM, with the difference being that data is saved in nonvolatile flash memory. “Nonvolatile” means that the data saved in the memory will not disappear when the device is turned off. Computers of all types normally have two types of memory: volatile and nonvolatile memory. Volatile memory is usually called RAM, while non-volatile memory has traditionally been the hard drive or other media storage types (e.g. USB thumb drives and writeable optical media such as DVDs and CD-ROMs).

Some benefits

When it comes to web hosting, SSDs offer many benefits, and the most important are outlined below:

  • Better performance: Obviously, performance is the most important benefit of SSD over traditional hard drives. When we refer to performance we mean website loading time. Speed is a very important factor these days and the faster your website can load the better. On average, websites should not take more than 3-4 seconds to load and SSD can help you a lot in this manner.
  • Reliability: SSDs are generally more reliable than non-ssd drives since they don’t have any moving parts and they don’t wear out over time. This does not mean that traditional hard drives are not to be trusted, it just means that SSDs use a more efficient technology that can stand better over time.
  • Environment-friendly: SSDs consume less power compared to normal disks and they are thought of as a more environment-friendly solution. From the consumer point of you, you are getting better performance in a greener way which is what is needed these days.

What are the downsides of SSD hosting?

The only real disadvantage of SSD hosting is the cost of the drives. Just like an SSD drive in a computer, SSDs for web servers are more expensive than regular hard drives. This is only a minor disadvantage compared to the huge benefits, and theoretically, this shouldn’t affect you as a website owner, but some hosts pass the costs of the drives on to their customers in the form of pricier hosting packages.

Why SSD hosting is the best choice for your website

In conclusion, SSD hosting has many advantages over traditional HDD hosting solutions. Faster recovery times, increased speed and durability, increased reliability, reduced latency, and ease of backing up and migrating websites mean that SSD hosting is quickly becoming the standard for high-performance web hosting solutions. It’s easy to understand.
